Millions of New Yorkers are expected to travel across the city for Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, and the MTA is adjusting subway, bus and commuter rail service to handle the holiday rush.

For real-time updates and trip planning, riders are encouraged to check the MTA website or use the MTA and Train Time apps.

Subway service

Christmas Eve (Wednesday, Dec. 24)New York City subways are operating on a regular weekday schedule.

Christmas Day (Thursday, Dec. 25)Subways are operating on a Sunday schedule.

New Year’s Eve (Wednesday, Dec. 31)Subways are operating on a regular weekday schedule, with increased service on the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, C, D, G, N, Q and R lines and the 42nd Street Shuttle during the evening and into the post-midnight hours. The A train will run express until 2:30 a.m.

New Year’s Day (Thursday, Jan. 1)Subways will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Bus service

Christmas Eve Bus routes in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan, and some in Queens, are operating on a reduced weekday schedule. Other Queens routes are running on a regular weekday schedule.

B100, B103, BM1 through BM5 and all BXM routes are operating on a regular weekday schedule. Staten Island buses are operating on a weekday schedule.

The reduced weekday schedules will also be in effect Friday, Dec. 26, Monday, Dec. 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Christmas Day Buses in all five boroughs are operating on a Sunday schedule.

New Year’s Eve Bus service mirrors Christmas Eve operations, with reduced weekday schedules on many routes. Staten Island buses will operate on a weekday, school-closed schedule. Bus routes in and around Midtown Manhattan are subject to detours due to New Year’s Eve street closures.

New Year’s Day All buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Tickets will be available via Ticketera, with table reservations offered through OpenTable.

The season reaches its most spectacular moment with Live Limitless New Year’s Eve 2025 on December 31. In The Lobby, guests will enjoy an evening filled with elegance and energy, featuring live performances by Michael Stuart and DJ JAV. Meanwhile, the grand Grand Ballroom will host a vibrant New Year’s Eve celebration with an open bar and live performances by Manny Manuel, Gisselle, and DJ Carlos Fernández, creating a night rich in rhythm, tradition, and joy.
