MIAMI, FL — Cuba has a new queen. Mia Dio, representing Isla de la Juventud, was crowned Miss Universe Cuba 2026 during a glamorous final gala held on August 20 at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay, Florida, bringing together members of the Cuban community, media personalities, special guests, sponsors and leading figures from the beauty and entertainment industries.

The evening marked the culmination of an extensive selection process that began with more than 100 applicants and ultimately brought 19 contestants to the final stage.

Dio received the crown from Lina Luaces Estefan, Miss Universe Cuba 2025, officially beginning her reign and her journey toward representing Cuba at the 75th edition of Miss Universe.

Under the Direction of Prince Julio César

The 2026 edition was presented under the leadership of Prince Julio César, National Director of Miss Universe Cuba, who has more than two decades of experience in the international beauty pageant industry. Under his direction, the organization introduced an important change to the competition this year: for the first time in its modern history, Miss Universe Cuba presented an independent Preliminary Competition, held on August 18, following a format similar to the international Miss Universe competition.

The preliminary allowed contestants to demonstrate their runway skills, communication abilities, confidence and overall stage presence before the final coronation night. Prince Julio César has emphasized that the search for Miss Universe Cuba extends beyond physical beauty, focusing on finding an intelligent and prepared woman with vision, defined goals and the ability to become a powerful representative of the Cuban community.

A Distinguished Panel of Judges

The 2026 competition brought together recognized personalities from entertainment, media, beauty and the Cuban community to participate in the evaluation process.

Among the confirmed members of the judging panel were Alicia Machado, former Miss Universe and internationally recognized television personality; Giselle Blondet, television host, actress and former beauty queen; Cuban content creator and social media personality Pollito Tropical; and Cuban-American media personality Alex Otaola. The panel was tasked with evaluating not only the contestants' presentation and stage presence, but also their confidence, communication skills, authenticity and ability to represent Cuba internationally.

A Celebration in Miami

The Miss Universe Cuba 2026 final became more than a competition. The event welcomed artists, invited personalities, sponsors, members of the judging panel, pageant executives and members of the media, with the red carpet opening ahead of the evening's main show.

The gala began with an opening performance featuring the 19 finalists, followed by the different stages of competition as the field was narrowed throughout the evening.

The final six included Mia Dio – Isla de la Juventud; Daniela Reyes – Pinar del Río; Lizlauren Mosquera – La Habana; Lorena Suárez – Región Central; Yramsi Bárcena – Mayabeque; and Daniela Espinosa – Ciego de Ávila.Ultimately, Mia Dio captured the title and became Cuba's new international representative.

A Story of Determination and Second Chances

Mia Dio's victory carries a particularly meaningful story.

The Cuban-Argentine-American digital personality previously competed for Miss Universe Cuba in 2025, reaching the Top 5 while facing facial paralysis shortly before the competition.

Instead of allowing that experience to end her journey, Dio returned in 2026 determined to pursue the crown once again.

That decision resulted in a remarkable comeback — returning to the Miss Universe Cuba stage one year later and leaving as its new queen. Born Mia Angelina Donadio Cancio, Dio has also developed a significant digital presence, reaching an international audience through beauty, entertainment and social media.

From Miami to Puerto Rico

Mia Dio will now carry the Cuban sash to Puerto Rico, where the historic 75th Miss Universe competition is scheduled to culminate on November 24, 2026, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan. Her journey will continue on an even larger international stage as she represents a new generation of Cuban women and a Cuban diaspora that has embraced the return of the country to Miss Universe.

From returning to the competition for a second opportunity to ultimately capturing the crown, Mia Dio's road to Miss Universe Cuba 2026 is a story of perseverance, transformation and determination.

Congratulations to Mia Dio, Miss Universe Cuba 2026 — next stop, Puerto Rico.
